Description
Art perhaps is a desire, more an attempt at not forgetting the moment, the circumstance, the setting, the air, the breath, the life of a moment. A moment charged with… that un-nameable that other, an other that separates moments and occurrences of similar formal bearing but one with a psychological, spiritual and personal dimension versus the one that perhaps with its dry lack, lack at least at that moment means little or nothing, for the potential lies in wait maybe not for you but for another . One person’s trash or inconsequential moment perhaps is someone else’s epiphany. That is the wonder and the joy of both art and life. My contribution is nothing more than a simple book of matches. Matches that advertise stamps for the collector, mine has a picture of Charles and Diana in their official engagement photo for only two dollars American. Why is this important? Because I met someone that evening whom with a child like wonder and beauty spiced with an adults understanding of the absurdity of it all marveled at that book in my possession. That person touched me that evening and I will never be able to see that book of matches again and not think of her, of course I will think of her otherwise but when those ubiquitous matches on this side of the water are used to light my smoke I will always be brought back to that first night of meeting her and a warm smile both exterior and interior will fill me.
